A little about Us
Nestled (as every small independent press ought to be) in the hills outside North America's only UNESCO City of Literature, Autumn Hill Books is a non-profit press that aims to make translations of primarily contemporary literature from around the world more widely available in English. AHB publishes only works in translation, which it selects from among the many fine books being published throughout the world today. It maintains close ties with the writing and residency programs at the University of Iowa, and with such Iowa-based publications as The Iowa Review, exchanges magazine, and 91st Meridian.
How to contribute
The best way to contribute is to purchase our books--for yourself, your friends, your family, your colleagues, your classmates, your co-workers, in short, for anyone who loves world literature. If you're a teacher or a book club member, we're always happy to work with you on discounted bulk orders. If you use your local public library (please do), then recommending that they purchase our books is a great help. AHB's books are financed primarily through grants and donations, for which we are always sincerely grateful. We've received grants from the National Arts Council of Singapore, the Japanese Literature Publishing Project, the Croatian Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US, the Consulate General of Israel in New York, the Iowa Arts Council, the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry, and Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Information about how individuals and organizations can contribute is available at the "support" link on the left side of this page.
How to order
AHB's books are distributed by Independent Publishers Group and available through all major retail outlets as well as online wholesalers (like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Abe Books, and others). If you would like to request one of our books through an independent bookstore, please let them know the title and ISBN (from our website), and they should be able to order it. If you have trouble, or if you would like to discuss a bulk order (for a class or reading event, for instance) drop us a line!
Download our latest catalog here. For the special promotional offer at the end, simply print out page 13, fill in the info, and mail it in! (For any books published since our last catalog, please simply write them in and apply a 40% discount.)
Behind the scenes
AHB's editorial director is Russell Scott Valentino; the editor of 91st Meridian Books in Natasa Durovicova. AHB also has benefited greatly from the help of a number of interns over the past several years, including Maya Katzir, Elizabeth McKiernan, Karisa Myers, Aris Dravillas, and Erica Mena-Landry.
